08:00 wake up
 

08:30 Breakfast: corn flakes, (tangerines, grapefruit and pineapple all peeled and mixed in their juices), grapefruit juice, toast
09:00 call 3 taxis to get one ride to Housesteads - Roman ruins, (not Homestead - Florida ruins)
09:50 arrive £12.00 lighter, wait for 10:00 opening
10:00 walk up hill to museum/ruined fort entrance, £2.80 each
10:10 walk around ruins, which overlook Hadrian's wall










10:30 notice sun subsiding



11:30 sun restored, someone must have had a backup
11:45 call 4 taxis, nothing doing
    gift shop proprietor mentions Hadrian's Wall Bus in 15 minutes.
12:05 catch bus to Haltwhistle £1.30 each
12:35 Haltwhistle reached, continue on bus to Carlisle £2.70 each

 

13:25 Carlisle, can't help but think of Nancy.
13:30 Cumbrian Hotel, lunch in bar just like Gregg always does. £10
14:10 Walk to Carlisle station



14:55 catch the 15:39 to Oxenholme

 

15:39 arrive Oxenholme
15:44 catch the 16:04 to Windermere (kind of dumpy, no 1st class, fogged windows (well at least they weren't MS Windows))
16:04 take Taxi to Beatrice Potter World £2.70
16:10 buy gifts for grandkids at BPW
16:20 take taxi to Booth's (supermarket with exit into station) £2.50
16:25 buy apples and plasters
16:30 wait for train


17:14 catch 17:34 to Oxenholme (much less dumpy, still no 1st class)
17:34 arrive in Oxenholme and stay on same platform for 17:39 for Carlisle

 

17:39 take 18:24 to Carlisle
18:24 arrive in Carlisle, go to Cumbrian Hotel, head for bar, wait, that's what Gregg would do, we head for restaurant.
18:30 restaurant opens for dinner, we're first.
18:32 given nice roll
18:34 order taken: battered cod and chips
19:05 food arrives, quite good
19:25 pay bill £23.90, head towards station for 19:36 train
19:28 stop at taxi stand ask lead taxi "would you go to Haydon Bridge?"
    "Sure",
"Roughly how much?"
    "Hey, how far is Haydon Bridge?"
"30 miles (I knew that)"
    "£35"
"Ok (I guessed £40)"
20:10 reach Haydon Bridge, direct taxi driver to Castle, £41.25
20:20 call vAutomation, everyone's just sitting around waiting for my call.
